A Long-Stemmed Rose

Take a poetic journey with the author up the long-stemmed rose of life experiences that include smooth pleasant times such as a moonlit sailboat race in the Gulf of Mexico and the joy of a morning walk as well as life's prickly thorns when we're separated from those we love or when a hurricane comes to call. The author uses free verse along with many more formal poetic forms such as the sonnet, pantoum, and gloss.

  About the Author

The author and her husband, Dave, moved from Illinois to Mississippi thirty-six years ago when they motored their sailboat down the Mississippi River to the Gulf Coast where they enjoyed racing and pleasure sailing for many years. Butkovich began recording life experiences and the beauty of the area with poetry and photography after retiring from teaching. She is a member of the Mississippi Poetry Society, Gulf Coast Writers and Writer's Unlimited. Her poetry has been published in many journals and anthologies. She and her husband currently reside in Gautier, Mississippi.
