Ed Fassel knew he was gay from the time he sat on his father’s lap at the age of three, experiencing what he describes as his first rejection.  From childhood pranks on the beaches of Delaware to his exotic South Sea journey, Ed’s life has been remarkable.  He consistently hid the truth from his family, yet he was unable to ever hide the fact that love is the dominant ruler of all he has accomplished.

Living with AIDS since 1988 and cancer since 1994, Ed has overcome a great deal of physical pain and spiritual suffering in his 50-plus years.  However, his phenomenal sense of humor has been the secret of his survival.

In Chameleon: hanging by my tale, Ed takes us back and fourth via colorful flashbacks from his present state of pain to the childhood dreams and fantasies of yesterday.  You’ll meet Candi Kane, Ed’s cyber identity in an Internet romance that is brimming with pathos and perversity, sadness and sensuality, longing and leaving.  You’ll also meet the teenage dance star who became the Fred Astaire of Delaware.

Ed reveals many colors of his chameleon-like nature in chapters introduced by his own poetry.  It is a beautiful autobiography, overflowing with anecdotes and revelations.  Ed’s lesson to us all: Learning to live will, rather than die sadly—despite the doctors’ death sentences.  The eternal hope for a cure for AIDS, the belief that love is all there is, the dream of a life long fulfilling partnership are the elements of Ed’s buoyant nature which keeps both the writer and the reader afloat in Chameleon: hanging by my tale.

Art Sapanli

A Turkish immigrant’s evolution from machismo to fatherhood and motherhood: The heartwarming story of how Art (Ertug) Sapanli dreamed of America as a youth, worked hard to achieve his goals and came to live the American dream. His life experiences would bring him full circle as he experienced true happiness and horrible sadness. The nightmare of his young wife’s death would suddenly force Art to make dramatic changes and discover the true meaning of life with his young son, Kevin. Together they faced the challenges of life at a time when hope seemed lost.

Art Sapanli grew up in a country where societal roles were very distinct and structured and never believed that his destiny would be that of both father and mother. Single parenting has been his greatest and most rewarding challenge. There are no greater gifts than those a child brings to a man’s heart.
