About the Author: Melody Worsham is a well-traveled, community-oriented, woman who became interested in training dogs when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness. She felt that a service dog would help her in maintaining the active life she loves. She adopted a Labrador puppy from a friend and attended local obedience classes. She discovered she had an affinity for dogs and understood them well. Since she makes a hobby of doing behavioral research, she began to read and study dog behavior. Her neighbors volunteered their own dogs for her training (and theirs!) and soon came to be known as the DogLady. After fifteen years of working as a trainer and behavioral consultant, Melody has spent a lot of time discussing certain behavioral issues that seem to be common in most dogs. Her purpose in writing A Guide To A Good Dog is to share the insights and suggestions she has comprised over the years into one easy-to-read book. Melody's social research and writings have been used by human service organizations, politicians and civic groups. She is a detail-oriented technical editor and copywriter. Melody lives in Woolmarket, MS with her boxer, Mary Jane Paisley, her Maine-coon cat, Fydoh, and her white rabbit, Bunny-Toe Mussolini. Her service dog, Mary's mother, Sheena, passed away in 2004 at the age of 13. She teaches dog training, basic computer courses and cooking classes for Gulfport Community Education. Melody is the founder and facilitator of the local Socrates Cafe. |
